Hotel and rooms require major make over. Dirty carpet in lift. Flaking of paint work on pipes in toilet. Despite this the room was very clean and tidy.
On service the bar attendant was very unfriendly and seemed put out that we wanted a drink at 10.45. There was a queue for breakfast but was mananaged in an excellent manner by the irish gentleman in charge. Although we were told we had to wait 10 minutes for our cooked breakfast it was worth the wait. Best full english I have had for a long time.

Although we booked a double room, we were put in one with three single beds? When I tried to change the room, I was told we had been 'UPGRADED...' In fact, they had no double rooms left, but had 'conned us' into believing they had upgraded us. The girl on the phone even had the audacity to tell me the room had two doubles and one single bed. I was looking at three devan size beds, just wider than the width of a large pillow!
She insisted two of them were doubles! I felt very angry and cheated by this place.
Also, the breakfast menu boasted a continental breakfast included in the price of the room, half the food wasn't available and what was on display was scant, to say the least.
I have NEVER complained about an hotel before, but I've made an exception for this place. Because they are in a good location, they assume they can get away with poor service. If I was staying for more than one night, I would have moved on the next day. I'd definately try somewhere else if I visit that area again, and would 'HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND' The Barkston gardens!! The location is very good for freindly pubs nearby and just a couple of miles from the Albert hall.
